This blog will be a response to my friend Jack's post quoted below:
"I'm starting to get close to some of the people I work with. I really like working with the young guys, because they think I'm cool, and they treat me like one of the gang. They have the same mix of races , as the Army did back than..40% white 30% Hispanic, and 30% black. The big difference is half of the guys at Disneyland have college degrees, or are in college. In the Army, it was mostly high school grads, or less. I find it a great place to witness to a select few, when I've become close to them,
Example If I think they like me, or respect me, I will say something like. "Hey Joe...what do you believe in? "What do you mean Dude? Me ;"You know..do you just believe in having a good time...Making money...or having Lot's of sex?...Or What? They would give me some answer...and than say "What about you old Man?" Well.....I believe in God...If you don't believe in God...your just waiting to die...which can happen any second,,,even to people your age!" They are surprised...because they don't think Christians can be cool too. They usually ask a few questions...which I answer, and then I shut up...and change the subject.
The seed has been planted. Every Christian has a ministry...to some group, or type of people, which God has equipped you with to do the Job,.Scott has teenagers, Vince has car guys, Ted has families, and Dave has business men, and Kids in sports. After I ended up at Disneyland...I wondered "Why am I here? The old people are shut down and weird, and the Kids will think I'm just a goofy old man with a memory problem, and the people in the middle are managers, who are half of them ...gay. The Kids I've met, know that I have a very tough background, Army, Hell Raiser...street racer..etc. But that's why they think I'm cool. Guys at this age are very simple...and confused, and trying to be a tough guy. It was great to see a bunch of guys like these young guys..go into Basic training, and come out ten weeks later as adults. The funny thing is, because I show the love to all these people..Old ..Gay...walking wounded...they all like me? It's because they can see that I don't look down on any of them, and they can see I care. The embarrassing part is all but the old people call me "Sir"? It makes me Laugh....I want them all to call me "Brother" some day...that will make our Father glad, and us too! ..Red"
Jack has given to us a great example of evangelism, but more importantly, a view of a Christian's mission. We have a Reformation Mens Club that meets once a month at our church. The other night we had a great discussion about a theological topic - the Order of Salvation, that is, the process that one goes through to be saved. The steps are Calling, Repentance, Faith, Justification, Adoption, Sanctification and Glorification. After awhile discussing this, we became a bit entangled with the bits and pieces. Then someone came up with a great analogy of a baseball team. When a team plays the game, no one is really thinking of the fundamental steps, it just happens, and it is fun – and God throws the first pitch, He is the coach, runs us on as the base coach, the Team owner and most importantly the Umpire.
The first 5 steps are accomplished by God alone. When the topic came to sanctification, the process leading us to glorification, one of the guys said that he prefers to think about it as “mission.” As we come next to the Lord, justified and as adopted Sons, we are to help Him complete His mission of making disciples. Through working out this mission, we work through our sanctification.
Praise God, Jack, that through your work at Disneyland, you are becoming sanctified. He does have a sense of humor.
